Ultra Violet light (UV) and Corona Discharge (CD) are the two ways ozone generators produce ozone (O3) for the purpose of sanitizing air/rooms, and eliminating odors. Ultimately, the mechanics are the same -- an energy source is applied (via electric discharge across a dialectric, or via UV light) to excite oxygen molecules (O2) to split/ionize, and subsequently those lonely oxygen atoms (O) bond with O2 molecules to produce ozone (O3). Ozone is highly oxidative, which makes it great for sanitizing biologic contaminants like disease and odor causing bacteria & viruses.
So, ozone is easy to produce with minimal energy inputs, has no long term effects once dissipated/neutralized, and ozone generators are very inexpensive! However, the downside is that ozone doesn't discriminate between bacteria and zoological cells; it will happily oxidize your sensitive alveoli cells (the little guys who help you breath!) just as readily as ebola and ecolii bacteria, or corona virus! Great care must be taken to not use ozone systems in rooms occupied by organisms you care about, including: people, animals, and plants!
